![]() ![]() The latest Barbie movie is supposed to have feminist messaging and that's doing extremely well. I think attributing Disney's struggles (outside of the remakes) with their politics is giving the quality of their newer movies too much credit, if the movies were exactly the same with what you consider culture war points taken out do you really think Disney would be crushing the competition? I honestly doubt it. Or the period before they owned Pixar where Pixar and Dreamworks 3D were wrecking Disney's 2D films. It's not unlike before The Little Mermaid where Don Bluth was beating them with Secret of Nimh, Land before Time, etc. ![]() I think Disney just generally struggle in an environment where their competition is on an even playing field or are ahead of them. Just think of 2005 where Pixars films looked fare ahead anyone but Dreamworks or Sony (and even then they were still). The 3D tech advantage Disney & Pixar had over other studios has narrowed. They haven't had a hit film since Frozen 2. I think Disney are doing worse in general, regardless of what values to push. Wed 2nd Aug I'd sort of disagree with you there. ![]()
